Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What does it cost to attend Sierra Massage School?
A: The total cost, including tuition, registration fee, books, malpractice insurance, etc. is approximately $2600

Q: How long is your course?
A: We teach a 200-hour course in Basic Swedish Massage. This course is, on average, completed in approximately 4 months.

Q: What times of day are your classes offered?
A: We offer an evening class that meets M, W, and F evenings from 6 – 10pm, and a morning class that meets M, W, and F mornings from 8 – noon.

Q: Do you offer financing or payment plans?
A: There are 3 different ways to pay for your schooling at Sierra massage School:
1.  Pay everything up front.
2.. Pay $100 registration fee to reserve your place in the class, pay for books and other fees (approximately $75) on the first day of class, then spread out the remaining tuition of $2360 evenly over the next 4 months ($590/mo.).
3.. Make special financing arrangements with the director for an individualized payment plan that you can afford. Note: You will not receive your certificate until your account is paid in full. (Call the school for details.)

Q: When do the next classes begin?
A: Our start dates for the rest of 2008 are Feb. 11, and June 16 & October 13. Dates for 2009 are not yet set. Please call the school if you want information on 2009 classes.

Q: What type of massage is taught at the school?
A: Students are formally instructed in Swedish massage only. Swedish massage is the most common type of massage/bodywork in the U.S. Students will be introduced to other types of bodywork, but will not be formally instructed in how to perform them. Some schools offer everything all at once, but this is not our approach. We feel you will be better equipped to decide which advanced courses you want to learn after you have taken a basic course.

Q: What if I want to learn more?
A: After completing a basic course at any massage school, you may attend an advanced course at any massage school. These courses include Shiatsu, Reflexology, Deep Tissue Massage, Pregnancy Massage, Hot Stone Therapy, etc.

Sierra Massage School offers advanced courses in Deep Tissue Massage, and Hot Stone Therapy, and is planning to offer an advanced course in Pregnancy Massage starting in late 2008. It is our feeling that it is best to learn Basic (Swedish) massage first before taking an advanced course.

Q: What is your class size?
A: We have small classes (less than 10 people)
