Frequently Asked Questions Re:
Sierra Massage School
Q: What does it cost to attend Sierra Massage School?
A: The total cost for the basic certification course, including tuition, registration fee, books, malpractice insurance, etc. is approximately $3100.
Q: How long is your course?
A: We teach a 250-hour course in Basic (Swedish) Massage Therapy. This course is completed in approximately 5 months. It is possible to speed this up somewhat. Please call the school for more details: 559-325-7600.
Q: What times of day are your classes offered?
A: We offer an evening class that meets M, W, and F evenings from 6-10pm, and a morning class that meets M, W, and F mornings from 8am-12pm. Students may also mix and match these days and times to “create” their own schedule (within certain limitations). Call for more details: 559-325-7600.
Q: Do you offer financing or payment plans?
A: There are 3 different ways to pay for your schooling at Sierra Massage School:
1. Pay everything up front.
2. Make equal monthly payments.
3. Make special arrangements with the director for an individualized payment plan that you can afford. Note: You will not receive your certificate until your account is paid in full. (Call the school for details: 559-325-7600.)
Q: When do the next classes begin?
A: Our start dates for 2009 are: 3/30, 6/15, & 9/14. However, it is sometimes possible to start in between these start dates. If you have a need to do this, please call the school for more details: 559-325-7600.
Q: What type of massage is taught at the school?
A: Students are formally instructed in Swedish massage for the Basic course. Swedish massage is the most common type of massage/bodywork in the U.S. Students will be introduced to other types of bodywork, but will not be formally instructed in how to perform them. Our advanced courses include Hot Stone Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Reflexology, Pregnancy Massage, and Aromatherapy.
Q: What if I want to learn more?
A: After completing a basic course at any massage school, you may attend an advanced course at any massage school. These courses include Shiatsu, Reflexology, Deep Tissue Massage, Pregnancy Massage, Hot Stone Therapy, etc. Sierra Massage School offers advanced courses if you wish to continue your massage education after obtaining your Basic certification. It is our feeling that it is best to learn Basic (Swedish)massage first before taking an advanced course. Some
schools offer everything all at once, but this is not our approach. We feel you will be better equipped to decide which advanced courses you want to learn after you have taken a basic course.
Q: What is your class size?
A: We have small classes (12 people or less).
Q: Will I be certified to work in the Fresno/Clovis area?
A: Yes. Most of our graduates are working locally and doing well. Call for more details about licensing/certification in California – this is a complicated issue.
